The Department for Registration of Persons (DRP) has decided to close their main office at Battaramulla and all other branch offices for public from Monday (16) until further notice, DRP Commissioner General Vianni Gunathilaka said.
He said the decision was taken after having found several employees within the Department tested COVID positive. Therefore, the department has decided to limit the employees of the internal office to help curb control the virus.
However, the people who have submitted their applications for National Identity Cards (NIC) will get their ID cards posted to their personal postal addresses, he said.
Meanwhile, special arrangements have been made to obtain NICs for emergency purposes such as for examinations, interviews and to obtain passports. People who want to obtain the NICs for the above emergencies can contact the department on the following telephone numbers during working days, Mr. Gunathilaka said.
Moreover, the Commissioner General requested the people to obtain further details about the facilities provided by the department through the following numbers and through the email ID: info@drp.lk
