An organisation called Hela Bodhu Saviya has offered to conduct the final rites of Buddhist Covid victims through Zoom technology.
Chairman of the Organisation Ven. Budugala Jinawansa Thera told Daily Mirror that they decided to do so as some people were helpless without any means to carry out final rights for their loved ones who died of Covid-19.
The Thera said they were prepared to conduct final rites in an open location by adhering to health guidelines or via Zoom technology.
“Most of the people are helpless without being able to conduct the final rites of their loved ones. Some temples are also under quarantine and Buddhist monks cannot move out. We decided to help such people to conduct the final rites of their loved ones through Zoom or in an open location by adhering to health guidelines. We do not expect anything in return,” the Thera said.
He said the dead body was not required to conduct final rites.
The Thera said the Dayseven Buddhist sermon can also be conducted via Zoom technology.
Those who wish to obtain their service could contact Ven. Budugala Jinawansa Thera on 071-8124505 (Whatsapp 077-3071950) or Ven. Passaramulle Dayawansa Thera on 071-8012049.(Ajith Siriwardana)
