The people in the North today (28) staged a hartal in protest to the ban issued by the Northern Provincial courts banning the commemorating a former LTTE member Thileepan.
Several political parties and civil society organizations in the North including Tamil National Alliance had requested to close government establishments, schools and the private sector institutions as well.
Accordingly, the shop owners in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaithivu, Vavuniya and Mannar put up shutters and closed businesses for the day.
However, the business community in Vavuniya agreed to open the shops at about 11 a.m. today in response to a request by the Police.
The Police said public transport services and government institutions in all districts in the North functions as usual. (Sithum Chaturanga)

People in Jaffna are no stupid, they know the thousands of deaths that followed after LTTE took control of Jaffna. They are not supporting the LTTE but these protests are outlets for the frustrations they have with everything.

Even more reason why the 13th amendment should never be implemented; more division and conflict!

If this is allowed, then the followers of the Islamist Easter bombers can also commemorate them!
