The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has decided to conduct an investigation into the actions of the police and security forces to control the protests held in Colombo and Kelaniya on March 7 and 8.
The Commission said the investigations will be conducted over the protests held around the University of Colombo on March 7 and 8 and the protest held around the University of Kelaniya on March 8. Police used tear gas and water cannons on university students during the protests held in Colombo and Kelaniya on those days.
Accordingly, the HRCSL has informed the IGP in writing to send a list of the most senior police officers who were deployed to control the protests on those days to the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission before March 10.
Meanwhile, Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles had been informed to appear before the Commission on Monday (13) to record a statement over the action taken by the police during those protests.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Don’t do useless investigations to hoodwink international agencies. UNHRC is so dumb to be deceived by SL HRC and SL Government. UN keep issuing statements of deep concerns and washes their hands saying we did something. IMF should withhold funds until SL government gives a written commitment that peaceful protests are not attacked by government sponsored thugs so called SL police and Army. Each instalment must be released by IMF after checking what happened on ground during previous months. This is not a joke anymore

If it is in a another country this person will be named as a renegade, who facilitated to give money to LTTE through Emil Kanthan to suppress the franchise of northern public. In our country he holds the ministry of security. This system will continue unabated even SJB comes to power since all these people are thick pales. Only hope for this country to establish rule of law is NPP. That is the last hope.
