More than 7,000 tourists have arrived in Sri Lanka within the first two weeks of this month, the Tourism Ministry said.
The tourism industry, which collapsed due to the Covid-19 is now gradually recovering, the Ministry said.
Accordingly, a total of 45,413 tourists have visited the country since January this year and 7,096 of them arrived from October 01 to October 13.
Most of the arrivals were from January to October. They were from India, Kazakhstan, Germany, Ukraine, the United States, China, Canada, France and Russia.
Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said that with the easing of travel restrictions, there is a growing tendency for more tourists to visit the country.
The Minister also said that the necessary promotional programs are being implemented to attract more tourists to the country within the next two months.
Meanwhile, hotel, accommodation and tourism service providers who have not yet registered with the Tourism Development Authority are now showing special interest in registering with the authority.
At present 5,786 tourist hotels were registered with the authority, the ministry said.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Stop those hefty charges from them and scrap those exorbitant entrance fees to places, and charge the same as locals. When more and more tourists come they spend a lot if money while they are in SL and loss of entrance fees is nothing compared with that. That is just basic economics. Also take some action to get rid of those touts bothering the tourists wherever they go. It is just embarrassing.

Ideally, our economy should not be dependent on tourism. Whatever tourism brings should only be a bonus.

Maybe these tourists comings to Sri Lanka must be suicidal. The Covid cases surged in Russia and maybe they will bring the 4th wave that GMOA is talking about.

Everyone who gets off a plane at the Airport is not a Tourist! Even if a Tourist comes, how will one know whether he brings in needed Foreign Exchange as a lot of jugglery could take place.

Please follow the Nepal style. They manage proper tourism by drawing a bottom line which actually brings revenue and controlling over burden. Well spent well respected and well looked after travelers will do more good to the industry
