Do we give public holidays for any Sri Lankan heads of state when they die ? Do we give public holidays for any Sri Lankan Chief Priests when they die ? Do we give public holidays for any outstanding Sri Lankans who have brought fame to our country when they die ? The answer to each of the question is a big NO. So if we are giving a public holiday for the death of a British Queen then we are affirming that we are an inferior people compared to the British.
Prasath Tuesday, 13 September 2022 10:23 AM
@ Mano, dont know about inferior but we crashed our economy with the know it all attitude. Never mind give a public holiday any way the public sector is bloated, loss making and dosent do any productive work. Govt is just trying to be in good books wiith the British may be London can help us come out of this terrible economic situation.

I agree with you some extent. However all we know that we have received the number of good things because of British rulers who governed the country for more than fourteen decades. Thus the railway system, island wide road network , banking and postal system and english education are among them. Hence despite of the declaration of the government holiday we have to pay our last respect to the queen. Furthermore while we are comparing the queen with Srilankan corrupted politicians who ruined this country plunging all of us to a big anarchy. The queen deserves so as to gain our respect as l believe

Unfortunately, those Lanka persons are no value after they die. The head of state, like when Gota even dies might better be forgotten about than remembered. No living past presidents of our country are thought well of. They've usually swindled or done other injustices. Their being alive means much ongoing expenses to upkeep their luxury lifestyle here too. The Chief priests have too long had electricity at lower cost than the poorest in our society. The Aloka Puja and other wasteful acts have tricked our rural people too long.

Because we didn't have a president until 1972 we was a commonwealth country since 1948-1972 after we was out from the commonwealth there was nothing good happened to Srilanka if we had not moved on and been with them even until the 1992 year we would have been a better country today example - Canada-Hong Kong-Newzealand

Absolutely correct. It is ridiculous in all sense. What has she done for Sri Lanka as she became queen after the year 1948?
Nihal Dharmatileke Tuesday, 13 September 2022 01:15 PM
We are not good people dishonest, inconsiderate, illdisiciplin, disorderly and selfish so why should one mourn for such people their passing away is a comfort for the living than emptiness

Island of holidays get another holiday It better for the calendar to indicate working days instead of holidays as there less working days than holidays.

Whether you like or not she is the world (Including Sri Lanka) head of state. Do not behave like a donkey.

Declaring a public holiday doesn't mean that we are inferior to anyone. It means we pay respect to the late queen. Many countries have declared such public holidays.
Punchi Tuesday, 13 September 2022 10:49 AM
The queen was head of a truely great civilisation and country. This is seen in the wealth and splendour of her funeral ceremonies and evidenced by the success her citizens and of our ex citizens from our failed 2500 year old existence residing in her UK
Disgusted Tuesday, 13 September 2022 01:20 PM
Is this really necessary? Are we under the British rule? President seems to be going a bit overboard on this.
Mandayan Tuesday, 13 September 2022 02:24 PM
Already country is with highest number of holidays in the world and there were many during the GotaGoGama struggle and why more?
Cou Tuesday, 13 September 2022 02:52 PM
