GovPay passes Rs. 1 billion mark, now used by 200 organizations

Colombo, Nov. 3 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka’s digital payment system GovPay has reached a big milestone, with over Rs. 1 billion in transactions and 200 government organizations now using the platform. This marks strong progress toward a fully digital payment system for the public sector.

The project is led by the Ministry of Digital Economy, together with the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) and LankaPay. It aims to make government payments faster, easier, and cashless.

Officials called the achievement an important step in Sri Lanka’s move toward digital government services, saying the system helps improve convenience, transparency, and trust.

After this success, GovPay’s next goal is to reach Rs. 1 trillion in transactions and connect 1,000 organizations.

The Ministry said it will continue working to expand the platform, helping Sri Lanka move closer to becoming a cashless digital economy.
