Lanka Private Bus Owners' Associaion (LPBOA) today said that there is no need for an annual bus fare revision for this year at this time.

LPBOA Chairman Gemunu Wijerathne said they have decided to contine with the existing bus fare without imposing a revision.

He also said he has informed this decision to the National Transport Commission (NTC) as well.

The annual bus fare revision will take place on June 01 every year. The busfare will be calculated according to the special formula taking into account twelve factors including the rate of inflation, the price of a litre of diesel, maintenance costs and the price of tyres and other spare parts.

"The NTC informed us that there is a 7 percent bus fare increase after calculation for the annual bus fare. "As an association we informed the NTC that the seven percent increment will not be acceptable at this time," he said.

"There was a 20 percent bus fare increase during the COVID period. Later, the bus fares were reduced by 10 percent," Wijerathne added. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

Surprise to see you have a HEART

LPBOA wants the SLTB gone so they can raise prices without competition Thursday, 29 June 2023 08:17 PM

The LPBOA is acting like a cartel or mafia group. Totally in control without letting any Bus owner set their own lower, fairer fares. The LPBOA is part of crooks who are acting against the SLTB, and encouraging failure in it. Once SLTB is gone, the LPBOA will be bigger headache for the government as they will be the only buses on the roads.

A Citizen who uses buses daily and wanting an improvement of the bus system Saturday, 01 July 2023 09:12 PM

Dear Mr Gemunu and “Dr” bandula gunawaradhana and all those filthy corrupted workers in the ministry of transport, NTC and SLTB. Please understand that unless there is a proper transportation system there is no use of increasing the bus fare? Ministry of transport must remove as many useless private buses as they can and implement government SLTB buses with proper instructions and no corruption or misconduct as it shows today that private buses are absolutely useless, dangerous and inefficient to the public. Sometimes they go fast when there is too many private buses on road. EG 138 nugegoda road or 176 hetiywatha Dehiwala route. But when it comes to Private long distance buses they are very slow and inefficient to deliver passengers on time. Eg Galle or Matara- Colombo route no 02 or any long distance journey. Private buses must ethier be removed and replaced by SLTB or else must be operated with strict conditions on time table and traffic laws.

REMOVE PRIVATE BUSES NOW!!!!! Saturday, 01 July 2023 09:13 PM
