Four including father, mother, sister arrested over murder of 12-year old

The Puthukudiyiruppu Police who conducted investigations into the murder of 12-year old girl have arrested four suspects including the victim's father, mother, sister and brother-in-law in connection with the murder.

Police launched investigations on a complaint received by the Puthukudiyiruppu Police that a 12-year-old girl had gone missing at Udayarkattu in Puthukudiyiruppu on December 15.

Later, the girl's body was found in a jungle area near her house on December 18 and post-mortem examination revealed that the girl was murdered.

Accordingly, the brother-in-law of the victim was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murder last Sunday.

Following the interrogation the suspect, the father,  mother and 21-year old sister of the deceased were arrested on Thursday in connection with the murder.

Although the above suspects tried to mislead the police officers to divert the murder, the investigators were able to find all the information related to the incident and arrest the suspects within a few days, police said.

The brother-in-law of the deceased girl was remanded till January 4, 2022 after being produced before the Mullaitivu Magistrate while other family members will be produced in court today.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)
