Former Acting General Manager of Lanka Sathosa, Wimal Perera, was sentenced to one-year imprisonment after he was found guilty of selling 1,000 metric tonnes of white rice at a price lower than the control price and incurring a loss of Rs.4 million to the government.
The case was taken up in the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today. Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne also imposed a fine of Rs.50,000 on the convict. (Nimanthi Ranasinghe)

Why not take steps to recover the 4 million? Rs. 50,000 is just a token punishment and in one year he will be scot free again.
