Former Minister Sirisena Cooray passed away today while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo, his family said.
He served as the Mayor of Colombo from 1979 to 1989.
Then, in 1989, he also served as the Housing and Construction Minister in the Government of President Ranasinghe Premadasa.
He also served as the General Secretary of the United National Party for some time.

Served the UNP and crossed over to the then SLFP with the Karu's leadership to strengthen the hands of Mahinda. His son, too, joined that trail and got stranded. Very unfortunate.
