Five children from Colombo who were born with congenital heart defects have undergone successful heart surgery in Kochi under a free heart surgery programme titled Neona.

The children underwent the surgery recently under the project jointly implemented by the Rotary Club of Cochin West and Rotary Club of Colombo West with the help of the Rotary Foundation.

Neona is a free heart surgery programme for children in Colombo, Sri Lanka, who have congenital heart defects and valve defects. The heart surgery was done at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Center, Kochi, a release said.

A total of 65 children will benefit from the project costing Rs 2 crore. Along with this, Sri Lankan doctors and nurses will be trained at Amrita Hospital. Rotary District 3201 Governor S Rajmohan Nair inaugurated the project at Panampilly Nagar KMA Hall recently.

The surgery is being performed as part of a project in memory of Neona, a one-and-a-half-year-old girl who died in a boat accident near Lakshadweep in 2010.  Her family is also cooperating with the Rotary Club of Cochin West’s project. (New Indian Express)

We are sending children from the land of abundant latrines to the land of open defection for medical treatment ? What a disgrace to our 2600 year old Buddhist bankrupt civilisation

The free medical care in Sri Lanka is a joke. Either the heart specialists have left the country for financial reasons or for racist reasons. It's bloody well the job of the state to have operations that can't be done in Sri Lanka be done in other countries, even if it has to be in the US.

How happy the Anti Sri Lankan Indian paid “psycho” is because the children were sent to India. The “madman” D B S Jeyaraj could be involved in other things too, Next time you send your children to Indian hospitals they could end up dead with organs taken out by the Indian doctors and sent to rich countries like Canada where Indian paid agents do the selling business.

This is a heavenly gift to these children. Thanks for the rotary clubs involved in these projects. This is real and highly appreciable service, the philanthropist in Sri Lanka should involve in similar ventures.

Karalasingsm Sivolingam, you are fake . You are the anti Sri Lankan, Indian paid “madman” D B S Jeyaraj. Yes , you like more Sri Lankan babies sent to India, so you can become rich in Canada. Now, we are getting to the main point why you support India.

@Sirisa and you are the chinese dumb bot. If the organs of these children were missing, how did your news not cover it. You yelling at the top of your voice doesnot make us baby killers. Maybe ask your army they are expert in killing kids.

@Punchi in which age are you living. There is no latrine problem in Kerala and many patients had been going for better and affordable medical treatment in India for many years now. It of course exposes the sad state of affairs here.
