Five senior Police Officers, including the Senior DIG in Charge of North Western Province Lalith Pathinayake, have been transferred to the Police Field Force Headquarters with immediate effect, Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said.

Accordingly, DIG in Charge of the Puttalam S.M.Y.M. Seneviratne, Puttalam Division SSP Pushpakumara, Anamaduwa Division SP H.M.C.P Herath and OIC Anamaduwa Nilantha Bandara have been transferred due to service requirement by the Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security under the covering approval of the National Police Commission.

However, sources said that the transfers were made due to the failure to settle the matter, which involved a group of STF personnel and a Police Constable without going to court.

Five officers, including two Police Inspectors, a Police Sergeant and two Policemen serving in the STF attached to the Puttalam camp were earlier arrested for allegedly beating up a Policeman of the Nawagathetgama Police.
The suspects have been arrested and were remanded till April 3. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Reason for the transfer is unacceptable. Is it offence to go to Court for beating. Police doesn't have special court like there forces have.
