The Peradeniya Police has launched an investigation after a 26-year-old 4th-year female undergraduate of Peradeniya University's Faculty of Engineering died while receiving treatment at the hospital.
The deceased is a resident of Ridigama, Kurunegala.
Police said the university student was admitted to the Peradeniya Hospital following an illness last night and had died in the early hours of today while receiving treatment.
Police said the student has been receiving treatment for a medical condition and the police are conducting further investigations to determine whether she has taken an overdose of the medicine prescribed to her.
A post-mortem has been conducted and the body has been handed over to the relatives after an open verdict was issued. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

How can u overdose on prescribed medicine, unless you want to suicide, or maybe she was forced to, need to investigate all possibilities, but for a student close to graduating, sounds fishy

This is going to be worse if the stress issues are not addressed at the earliest. Stress levels are high among the educated and uneducated as well in the country. We need good rulers to understand the situation well and address the issues of youth.

This is the most recent of a series of suicides by campus students. There should be a better mechanism to provide counseling to them.
