Escapee from Kegalle prison shot dead

A prisoner who escaped from the Kegalle Remand Prison was shot by a prison guard this morning and died after being admitted to the Kegalle Hospital.

Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayaka said the inmate, 33-year-old Ajith Kumara, who was a resident of Malsiripura, was shot dead when he had made a daring escape from the Prison.

The victim fell on the field near the Municipal Council building, which is adjacent to the prison, and died after being admitted to the Kegalle Hospital by the prison officials.

The spokesman said the inmate was sentenced in prison for 09 months for failure to pay money over a maintenance case. He has spent 14 days in prison.

It was reported that the inmate sustained fatal wounds to his leg and arm.

The Kegalle Police is conducting further investigations in this regard. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

I think that the security guard doesn't have tight to shoot him at all...it is his duty to capture him and bring back but what he did was wrong ...in Sri Lanka life so cheap this is why this man was shot dead ...this security guard has taken law into his hand and he must be fired and he must be put behind bars for this crime ?.

Prison guards shooting and killing an escape from a remand centre , that means not a convicted criminal. The Prison guard must be arrested and charged .

Person who is not possible to pay money for the matain the has shot dead. Its true he is in jail term but he is not a murder I felt sorry abut him. The prison guard will be got the promotion. Sri lanka is place not a place for the living. Rulers and regulations only for the poors.

He could have been caught sooner than later. In custody for non payment of maintenance. Prison guard has acted in excess of his authority

This is a tragedy. This should have never happened.d empowerew to shoot a prisoner. Obviously the prison guard did the nshooting. In what circumstances is a prison guard gien power to shoot a prisoner. Has he complied with the rules. Unfortunately, Sri Lanka is a bacward country governed by unprincipled and authoritarian rulers. No one questions the authorities
