The process of procuring fuel and coal should be entrusted to the Opposition through a Parliamentary committee appointed on the matter, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said today.

He told Parliament that a committee should be set up in Parliament on the procurement of fuel and coal and its chairmanship should be handed over to the Opposition. The Minister said opposition MPs including former minister Champika Ranawaka had claimed that fuel could be provided at lower rates.

"I propose to the Speaker to appoint a committee on procurement of fuel and coal. Its authority should be given to the Opposition. I request an oppsition MP to take over the responsibility," he said. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

That's a good move by you Mr. Minister. Also a good chance for Mr. Sajith and Mr.Champika to prove their capabilities to bring Oil and Gas at an affordable price.

Now lets see how Sajith will get down fuel with a 3 year pay back period that he had promised

Patchwork solutions will not work. Bring a System Change for good governance. People-friendly constitution, a meaningful electoral system, where transparency, accountability, and meritocracy will prevail.

Very good suggestion by the Hon. Minister . The responsibility of getting the necessary Coal , Diesel ,Petrol and Gas etc should be handled by a parliamentary joint committee involving opposition members. Then we all can see a better out come for this problem of commission allegations.

For Sajith its very simple. He will give few calls to middle eastern countries and there will be a long que of fuel ships which will be in competition to dock at Port to deliver the cargo.

Passing the ball is not the solution. Have an election and ensure that those contestants have a proper education. Put a proper system in place. By the way daily mirror never publishes my remarks. Very biased

    Very good idea

Of course the Hon Opps leader will take up the challenge! On several conditions. President should immediately resign along with prime minister. Then a general election should be called immediately. Next depending on the outcome of events, they 'may' take up the challenge!

First real good idea by the Minister. Provide those who claim they can full six months of the Ministry for CEB. Create new State Minister for CEB even. There is much complex trouble in many ways, and new eyes and minds if they willing to do it should be allowed. Minister's ideas were poor, but then again others have no opportunity to do much in opposition either. Hope a MP or group of MPs from opposition take up the challenge.

Actually its a very good model to follow for large scale purchases. The minister and at least 3/4 representatives from the opposition should be invited to sit on large expense tender boards.
