A tense situation prevailed during the final Randoli Perahera of the historic Temple of the Tooth in Kandy when an elephant carrying the casket of the Kataragama Devalaya, ran amok last night.
It was reported that at least five elephants were being prepared for the Kataragama Devalaya perahara turned wild just before joining the Maligawa Perahera.
However, the procession resumed after several minutes.
Two people were injured in the meelee, but they were not in serious condition. (Chamil Rupasinghe and Shane Senevirathne)

It is the Mahouts who are always responsible for these incidents. Most of the time they are intoxicated and treat these animals in a very cruel way. Wonder anybody check these people prior to the Perahera.
