The electricity bill should be increased by a considerable percentage, at least to pay the monthly salary of the employees, CEB Chairman M.M.C. Ferdinando said.

Addressing the media, he said the electricity rates had not increased since 2014 until now.

This is not a fault of the consumers, but the CEB had to increase the bill amount step by step without making it a burden to the people.

The revenue of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is Rs. 277 billion and the cost is Rs.755 billion. The CEB should increase the bill by at least 250 per cent to compensate for the loss, which is neither unreasonable nor unjust.

However, no decision has been taken yet to increase the electricity bill, he said.

Meanwhile, the CEB chairman assured that the prevalent power cut situation will not last until the end of this year. He said the CEB is looking forward to minimising the power cut duration from three hours to twenty minutes until the diesel issue is solved and with the increase of hydropower generation. Pay to renewable energy suppliers before pay salaries to CEB employees. Those companies cannot pay salaries to their employees . It's really unethical CEB

    Ramesh Monday, 06 June 2022 08:00 PM

Cut or freeze the salaries of everyone, including the ones at top. If you have done your job properly there is no need to cry now.

Reckless govt. Monday, 06 June 2022 08:11 PM

The govt fail to consider the ability of our people to meet the increases of all essentials items such as food medicine gas kerosene milk powder and transport cost etc. Whereas wealthy businessmen are avoiding all the taxes payable by them due to their good relationship with the Rajapakshas. Poor people are going to die along streets very soon.

Mismanagement takes priority. Yes tariff need an increase but the excuse to pay salaries which are the highest in the public sector is not an excuse.

    Ravi Monday, 06 June 2022 08:22 PM

First and foremost it's best all employees salaries be reduced by a considerable percentage. Performance is not up to standard and corporation is over staffed.

    Ruwan Monday, 06 June 2022 08:34 PM

You can increase the price.... But what is the guarantee for an uninterrupted service... So suggest to privatise the institution and cut all unnecessary costs.

    Kumar Monday, 06 June 2022 09:05 PM

CEB employs more staff that it needs and hire friends as consultants to do nothing. At the end of the day, it is ordinary folks that pay the price. As we all know that politicians never pay their bills. Some proudly claim they go to the parliament in a Benz after not paying their utility bills.

Can you tell us CPC workers force by now ?

    Sambo Tuesday, 07 June 2022 07:22 AM

All your wastage, corruption and over staff is your main loss and instead of looking into those you penalize the customer by increasing the price. What a country to live in.

    Prof. H.M. Amarasinghe Tuesday, 07 June 2022 07:30 AM

Before increasing Electricity charges, terminate all your casual workers that cost can cover the losses of CEB.

    Justin Tuesday, 07 June 2022 07:33 AM

Cut down the un-wanted Overtime paid for CEB employees, that cost will cover save a lot, without burdening the public.

    MMK Abdulla (attorney-at-law) Tuesday, 07 June 2022 07:35 AM

Let me tell why the CEB is running at a loss, just simple - excess staff, overtime payments that is all.

    SL Tuesday, 07 June 2022 08:25 AM

Remove all the political appointments .CEB is already overstaffed. Cancel vehicle permits for engineers stop renting engineer's own vehicles procured through vehicle permits expose how vehicles are rented and the owners and their relationship with CEB
