An amount of US$ 800 has been paid per day to each person with all the facilities who have  participated in the recent T20 World Cup held in Australia as officials with the sponsorship of Sri Lanka Cricket.

This was revealed during the Ministerial Advisory Committee on Sports and Youth Affairs that met in Parliament yesterday (22) under the chairmanship of Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Roshan Ranasinghe.

It was also revealed that non-officials who have participated in the tour had also been given the same facilities given to officials.

Meanwhile, the Minister instructed the Ministry officials to call a report from cricket selection committee for overlooking Chamika Karunaratne to the National Cricket team.

During the meeting it was revealed that there is an opinion that when selecting players for the Sri Lankan cricket team, only players belonging to a certain religious group are selected.

It was expressed that Chamika Karunaratne, who had performed well in the past, was not selected to the national team because he did not agree with the religious ideology. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Some mischief makers are behind this claim. 6.9m idiots believed media and voted a disaster. If we analytically evaluate this media claim does it mean the 15 member squad that eventually went agrees with this so called religious belief? Lets not be fooled again.

while ordinary man is starving all those who are connected to this corrupt government are merry making. when plundering the country the 3 corrupt parties ( Srilanka Padada peramuna,SJB,SLFP) get together without considering whether they are in government or opposition.

Preferential treatment for players belonging to certain religious group has been rumored for long. False accusations only affects religious harmony in the country as a whole. Is it Buddhist religion? or Christian religion?. The Minister should identify and clear all doubts. I am a Christian and do not agree to preferential treatment. Mischief makers should be punished. So far pirith ceremonies were only considered as blessings.

Selectors must be brave enough to select the best in the business no matter what religion they belong to. Are we killing talent and the sport by doing such third grade acts? Wake up those responsible!

Two separate issues? Thursday, 24 November 2022 08:35 AM

Why are we confusing two issues? One says people not entitled but bum suckers were accommodated at public expense. The total expense is not revealed. Next it is about not including a certain player. These unrelated issues should be enquired separately. Also we see a prompt comment to confound the issue!

Cricket is one of the main reasons for the economic collapse of Sri Lanka. Most of the time people are watching cricket or talking about cricket. Few people are playing and making money. All others are wasting their valuable time watching and talking about cricket. Cricket is a huge addiction that people should come out from. Lazy men’s game!

Did Santa’s wife mention something about religion recently…no smoke without fire! And whoever says there is no discrimination in our cricket selection should get their head tested!

Not spinning yarns here, but as a nation with such diversity, shouldn’t Tamils, Muslims, Malays, Burghers and others get their spoon in the soup too? There is plenty of talent out there, be it school, club or mercantile division.
