The Election Commission today informed the Supreme Court its effort to organize and conduct the Local Government elections has been obstructed since the required funds for the elections are not provided by the Secretary to the Treasury.

Filing a motion before Supreme Court, the Election Commission said due to the failure of the Secretary to the Treasury to provide necessary funds for the election and the failure on part of the Government Printer to release the ballot papers for the Election, it is unable to conform with the undertaking given to the Supreme Court. this create bad precedence for rulers in this country not to hold elections. Here in after any ruler who wants to postpone election will resort to this method adopted by Ranil.This must be stopped at any cost.

So what is the consequence of violating the requirement of elections when due? What is the provision set aside for election expenditure in the budget? If unavailability of funds is the reason now, anyone with an ounce of brain should know by this time next year it will be far worse. What then?
