A doctor of the Karapitiya teaching hospital is alleged to have sexually abused a 15-year-old girl in the scan room.
Police said the victim complaining of a stomach ache had been admitted to hospital and after preliminary treatment referred to scan test. It is alleged that doctor had sexually abused the girl who prepared for the test and lay on a bed.
The girl was crying when she was brought to the ward and complaining of severe pain in her sexual organs. When inquired by the nurse she revealed her experience in the scan room.
Hospital police on information from the doctor in charge of the ward, initiated investigations of the incident. However, the Judicial Medical Officer of the Karapitiya Medical Faculty Dr, Janaki Warushahennadi examined the patient and reported that the girl had not been raped, but the patient’s complaint could not be ignored. OIC Women and Children’s Bureau of the Galle Police IP Chaudari is conducting further investigations.(DG Sugathapala)

Dr, Janaki Warushahennadi is simply like all Sinhalese deny, deny and deny. Now how the hell can she determine this 15y was not raped? Rape does not necessarily mean forced penetration showing bruises. It is "unlawful non-consensual forced sexual activity" that can happen in many forms and can only be determined by a independent investigation and not by those same Doctors inside this same hospital. Is this the quality and educational

We can’t rule out the possibility that the girl is totally lying or exaggerating. But at the same time it is well known the doctors come together protect each other. Unfortunately medical doctors are given total control of clinical medicine as such there is no one other than a doctor who can examine a girl for any sign of rape or sexual molestation. The system should change. Others like Biologists must be allowed to examine in such situations. It is pure stupidity that Biologists who know more than the doctors, are kept out of clinical medicine.

Goofy Ravi, Even if the girl agreed to have sex with Doctor inside the Hospital, it is wrong because (a) the hospital is not the place for Doctor to have his nocturnal activities and break professional code (b) the girl is a minor (d) a nurse and family member of girl should have been there during examination.

The doctor is wrong. There should be a chaperon present every bed site examination. Minors - parents should be allowed unless if it is a surgery or patient declined (age between 12-18). It can even happen to female doctors too. Please follow the standard procedure which needs just another human.

Doctors always safeguard each other, unless he belongs to the minority.

How can a doctor be allowed to examine a young girl with a a gynecology complaint without a female nurse present? The hospital is at fault too.
Hospital short of staff? Monday, 12 September 2022 12:46 PM
There is a rule, that a female nurse or similar staff should be present when a male doctor or Physio examines or treats a female patient. This rule is not new, and this crime is also not new. Remember the girl who jumped out of the window in Negombo hospital to escape from a doctor who tried to rape in the clinic? May be short of Staff???

CT and MRI scans are done in imaging machines. Ultra Sound scans are done with a manually sliding equipment. Physical examination isn't done in any of these. Then how???????????

Is the JMO trying to help her dirty colleague. If the Doctor examined a female patient's private parts in the absence of a female nurse that itself is an offence
Kalana sanadaruwan Monday, 12 September 2022 05:18 PM
This is a false accusation. First there is no time to do such things in karapitiya. Busy hospital. Second there was female chaperon (a minor staff attend as female chaperon)

Don't outweigh the circumstances that could occur in busy hospitals, I've been to the busiest hospitals in the country where female nurses had to leave the scanning room midway to take care of other commitments. They close the doors, the doors are sound proof, the patient lies in the bed, the room is dark. Anything is possible, specially Rape!

This comment from Kalana Sandaruwan sounds dubious. Scans are done on Xray machines when patients are fully clothed. At least, wearing the gown. There is no requirement for the attendance of a female during such tests. Does this guy work there as well? May be he should be investigated too! May be this hospital is a cesspool.

Free education, Standardisation and the non-existence of the viva-voce to assess aptitude test of the candidate as admission process to Medical College/?? All types of refracts are in the system and suspicions are rife?!! Not forgetting the girl may be hallucinating and/or lying!!??

Well what a shame for a doctor to be doing this third grade stuff wonder whether the Paraya has any daughters,he should be hunged.
Yasmin Jaldin Tuesday, 13 September 2022 09:54 AM
Why was not a nurse with the doctor and patient at the time. Some doctors are very vulgar when a patient complains of sickness in the female organs. Shame.
Cherath Tuesday, 13 September 2022 10:03 AM
IF, a female staff was present, as it ought to be, molestation/rape/abuse wouldn't have happened. Nor would a possible false accusation of rape by a girl, with possible paranoia. Were the Hospital authorities completely mad to allow a Male doctor to examine a young girl's private areas in private?
Terrence Tuesday, 13 September 2022 10:30 AM
Always there should be a female nurse when a male Doctor examines female patients as a some doctors have a bad history of making advances on patients
