The Magisterial inquiry into the suspicious death of businessman Dinesh Shafter was postponed for March 22 by Colombo Chief Magistrate today.
The case was postponed for a further date due to the unavailability of the permanent Magistrate who inquired about the post-mortem inquiry today.
Consequently, Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis, before whom the case was called, postponed the case for March 22, 2023.
On the previous inquiry date Magistrate Rajindra Jayasooriya appointed a five-member expert committee of doctors in forensic Medicine field and in the medical field to probe and determine the cause or causes into the death of entrepreneur Dinesh Schaffer’s death on 15 December
2022.
The panel comprises Prof. Asela Mendis, Prof. D.C.R. Perera, Prof. D.N.P. Fernando, Dr. Siva Subramaniam and Dr. Rohan Ruwanpura were to examine and to decide the cause of Dinesh Shafter’s death and to submit a report to the court yesterday.
Magistrate Rajindra Jayasooriya made this order since there were contradictions in the post-mortem report submitted earlier to the court regarding the death of Dinesh Schaffter.
Dinesh Schaffter was found unconscious and tied inside his vehicle at the General Cemetery in Borella on 15 December 2022 evening and was rushed to the ICU of the National Hospital in Colombo. He was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment. (T.Farook Thajudeen)

In Sri Lanka covering up a murder seems to be so easy by dragging the case starting from all the parties involved from the state or otherwise ! May his soul Rest In Peace.

Judiciary needs to be automated and certain KPIs set. if needed even increase the number of judges and court houses. time we take to conclude cases is way too long and this will be a macro economic factor even foreign investors will be concerned about. Get UN assistance and automate the entire judiciary.

When Armed Forces are involved in crimes such as this, nothing will be found and the case will die a natural death like Thajudeen, Lasantha, Taraki, Ekneligoda, Raviraj, Trinco Students, Faime Muttur and thousands more.

If the country show a lethargic attitude for the inquiry of this billionaire killing, how things would happen if this for a normal person.
