Diana pleased with budget proposal to promote growing Cannabis

State Minister Diana Gamage today said she was extremely happy about the proposal made by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to grow Cannabis in Sri Lanka.

“I am very happy that the President has realized the value of this medicinal herb. It is an industry which can provide many employment opportunities. This is why I promoted it. I am hoping to bring in investments worth over two billion dollars through cannabis plantation next year,” Gamage said.

“I made this proposal some time back,” she recalled.

Asked whether she would remain in Parliament when the investments she promised to bring to this country, because of her dual citizenship issue, she said it is a matter in the hands of the judiciary. “I don’t want to talk about the dual citizenship now as the matter lies with the judiciary,” she said. I would want to bring dual citizenship for MPs back just in case she would want to become a dual citizen in in the future, just for her. Ganja or cannabis, call it by whatever name you choose. It has now been given a far more respectable name which is an eye wash. The proposal to grow cannabis on a large scale should not be a cause for happiness. Rather, it heralds another step in destroying the cultural values of the country and people will protest heavily against this stupid move. Only consolation at this moment is that the dastardly president never implements anything that he proposes.

As a politician, she at least thought outside the box. SL is full of religious fanatics and those of blind faiths. If the country is to be developed, it needs to have facilities to attract tourists, and introduce night life, good inexpensive pubs, good clean inexpensive accommodation facilities. Go to Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia and see. I recently visited SL and it is a basket case. Some crapy rooms in SL cost $75 whereas a better room in Thailand is $20. Food is the same. There is no place to have a beer in SL. This is unbelievable and the useless politicians say they need tourist dollars, but there is nothing for tourists. Fort Railway station can best be described as a cattle shed. Those working there are so rude and lack any customer service skills.
