It has been revealed that the Delta variant could cause heart failure in individuals with no previous history of any chronic ailment including cholesterol hypertension or diabetes and without developing any symptoms of COVID-19.
Senior Cardiologist of the Colombo National Hospital (CNH) Dr.gotabhaya Ranasinghe said more than 20 such cases were subject to angiograms to find that they had suffered a heart attack without any other complications or chronic diseases. He said this was not experienced in the first and the second waves of the pandemic.
Dr.ranasinghe pointed out that most of the Covid-19 patients who had developed heart attacks without any symptoms of COVID-19 infection or without a previous history of chronic ailments in this manner were young and middle aged individuals.
He wanted the public to be cautious and immediately admit patients to the CNH in case of any such condition without a previous history of hypertension, cholesterol, or diabetes. He said a special medical team was on the alert to provide them treatment.(Reka THarangani)
