An individual and one of his friends who raped the former’s daughter since the age of ten were taken into custody by Karuwalagaswewa Police yesterday.
It was ironical that the friend had informed police that the daughter had been raped by the father, but the investigation revealed that both of them had raped the girl.
Police said the victim was now 16 years of age and a grade ten student at a school in Puttalam, her father is 44 years and her father’s friend involved in the incident was 39 years.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had raped the girl for more than five years when her mother was away from home for employment. However, the mother who denied any knowledge of the incident told police that she was a manual worker away from home during the daytime and returned late in the evening.
The victim and the suspects were residents of Thabowa in Karuwalagaswewa area.
A senor police official said the individual who provided information against the girl’s father had himself raped the girl with the knowledge of her father.
The suspects were to be produced in court last morning and the girl to be referred to the JMO Puttalam Base Hospital.
Karuwalagaswewa Police are conducting further investigations.

Oh my! What a terrible thing to happen to a child. To endure that for five years!!! Such a traumatic event for this child. I hope this so called father and the friend will not see the light of day ever again. Someone needs to get this girl out of that house.

Why you say someone "needs to get this girl out of that house...." As long as the devils in the house are expelled, she is safer there. Otherwise taking her elsewhere may lead her to be preyed upon by further child abusers.

Sri Lanka schools have teachers who are often found viciously abusing students. University have punished students for hugging, saying others feel ashamed for it. There is too much pride about culture and religion here, and not enough about compassion towards others. This makes students unable to speak to anyone at school, like to even teacher about abuses that happen to them at home.
