The present lockdown will be of no use if public movement is properly curtailed, Public Health Inspectors Union (PHIU) claimed.
PHIU Head Upul Rohana said people were behaving as if there is no lockdown or quarantine curfew in the country.
“It's in fact futile to extend the curfew because it is apparent that the ideal results expected of a lockdown cannot be achieved with the prevailing lockdown in the country,” he pointed out.
“We do admit the fact that the economic activities should be maintained; however, what we find so tricky is that every other activities are being carried out under the guise of maintaining the economy," the PHI Head emphasised.
He said if the authorities pay no attention to this, the situation would be more detrimental in the future with more contagious and lethal coronavirus variants.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said neither the PHIs nor other health officials can curtail the movement of people during the lockdown.
“People themselves will have to be responsible and most importantly, the law enforcement authorities should make sure the quarantine curfew is properly observed by the general public. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

The pandemic will be over with or without lockdowns and vaccines by September 20. Deaths will continue for few more days and by September 30, the daily death number will be close to zero.

Government should revert to April 2020 lockdown method. At that time it was managed very well. Revert to the same lockdown method that way for the next 2 weeks the required results can be achieved. No vehicle movement of any sort and no essential services for the next 2 weeks. Do this and the results will be successful . It’s better to manage with one meal a day than catch the virus and end up 6ft down

People are moving freely here and there no law enforcement authorities look in. This is a lock down for the name sake. If this method is continued Sri Lanka will not be able to bring down number of Covid cases below 500 perday for the next 3 months time

this is why I suggest the government to provide nuclear bunker to every family. In that way people can be literally locked down. we can save so many lives not only from Corona but from dengue malaria, skin cancer, traffic accidents so much more. infact we can save tens of thousands of lives a year( sarcasm)

I am a Consultant attached to a hospital in Wayamba Province. Yesterday I was treated like that of a criminal by Police in the province. They stopped my car as I was displaying a small red cross in the front window pane. I usually dont advertise my post by pasting a huge ‘ Car Pass’ with the word Consultant on it. But I showed them that pass which was kept in a seperate file. I was immediately asked to stop the vehicle and the Cop demanded my ‘ Hospital ID’. Mind you , there were hundreds if vehicles passing us, even at that time. We , medical staff , in government hospitals, have not refused to treat a single patient. But this is how , we are treated on the road. I think , hereafter we must think twice .

You guys are always complaining but don't think of how people have to survive without employment.
Ranaweera Saturday, 11 September 2021 05:44 PM
You are making statements to the press which appears to be the only thing you have been doing. While a vast majority of people stay home , others have to go out for essential services. You can't get covid by going out if you wear a mask properly throughout the day. What is not to be done are the gatherings, parties, and other ceremonies, . You cannot stop exports under current economic situation, if you do that ,most will die from starvation than covid. So being a responsible person, kindly make some sensible statements. Otherwise we have label you as a useless guy who hates the government.

It is easy for those who have guaranteed monthly income to lecture to the rest of the country. First give them a solution to feed themselves and their families. Thereafter go for a complete lockdown and people will respond positively. To those lecturers I ask which is harder dying from Covid-19 or seeing your family die of hunger.

Sir in Colombo North areas for the last two days people are struggling to get a bucket of water due a sudden breakdown. How do you expect people to remain indoors when we have no water. This would have created another cluster .

cut the salaries of all public servants by 75%, specially that who are lecturing here, than we see how many are crying for a lockdown.

Anne Karunaratne Sunday, 12 September 2021 01:48 PM
Unfortunately What he says is true. There are phone shops, stationery shops, tyre shops, lathe shop, opticians, all open! Of the above, which ones are essential services?? The curfew should have been like the one imposed in April last year. People survived, somehow! If that was done initially, then by now the country could have been opened!
Fatima Lai Sunday, 12 September 2021 01:48 PM
If this lockdown continues, we will see more beggars on the streets as we already see, whether it reduces COVID deaths or not.
