Due to a recent increase in the electricity tariff, the All Island Communication Owners’ Association (AICOA) has decided to increase photocopy and printout charges by Rs. 5.

ACCOA chairman Indrajith Perera told the media that they are in a critical situation providing the service with the increase in the electricity tariff by 66%.

He stated that their business is currently suffering as a result of the suspension of imports and an increase in taxes on imported items such as communication equipment and devices. We used to continue with our business even during the COVID-19 pandemic and other critical situations that the country had faced.

Perera said the association showed their opposition to the government for taking crucial decisions without considering the will of the people. Then he apologized to the people, children, and students for the decision they had compelled to increase the charges for the services.

Accordingly, the price of a photocopy would have to be increased by Rs. 5, plus printout and laminating services.

With the price increase of the communication equipment, services, and accessories, we cannot specify the exact price increase of the services. Every day the charges of all these services are rising. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)

  • When will government end these business mafia tricks Friday, 17 February 2023 04:47 PM

Let each business up its prices as necessary and customer go where it is better value. The association is clearly a business mafia, which looks for every opportunity to increase it already to fat margins. Government must end these business associations/mafias as they are not labour union but price increasing wicked business groups.
