A committee, headed by Deshabandu Tennakoon, Senior Deputy Inspector General of the Western Province, has been appointed by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to investigate into and report on measures that can be implemented to combat narcotic drugs and underworld activities.
The committee was appointed under the guidance of Public Security Minister Tiran Alles.
The committee comprises Senior DIG K.P.M. Gunaratne from the Northern Province, SDIG Sajeewa Medawatta from the Southern Province, STF Commandant DIG Waruna Jayasundara, CID DIG S.P. Ranasingha, Police Narcotics Bureau DIG Oshan Hewawitharana, Special Bureau DIG T.C.A. Dhanapala and Colombo Crimes Division Director N. Silva.
The committee will be responsible for assessing the current situation and proposing effective strategies to address the drug menace and underworld activities. Their findings will be submitted to both the Police Headquarters and the Ministry of Public Security. (Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

Fifty years ago a Tamil womaniser and an ego maniac , called DIG Sundralingam, was appointed by the Idiotic woman Prime Minister Sirimavo Bandaranaike as an “Intelligent Police Officer” to head the first ever NARCOTICS BUREAU in Sri Lankan Police History. This guy used to give weekly interviews ( all boastful lies) to the media and became the most famous policeman in Sri Lanka. Stupid Prime Minister believing every word of this Policeman , allowed him access to unlimited funds and resources. But there were no progress at all in combating drugs, just like today drugs were pouring in from India, by sea, and distributed with Colombo as the centre. This crooked Policeman was a total failure in war against drugs but he successfully fooled everyone that he was winning. He used the funds to entertain foreign diplomats based in Colombo, then used their recommendations to get a job in the Interpol and fled Sri Lanka with his family. Are we creating another “DIG Sundralingam” in Sri Lanka ?

Deshabandhu in this Committee is the worst decision ever taken. He is Tiran's pet boy, so he will be pushed more and more into prominence in the hope of getting him appointed as the IGP. This corrupt policeman should not be in the service at all, but in a jail for his previous actions. Remember his "set up " assault on himself immediately after the Galle face attacks !!!!!
