Captain, three soldiers arrested over abduction and assault of man in Norochcholai

A Captain and three soldiers of the Army have been arrested for abducting and assaulting an individual in Norochcholai, Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said.

He said a complaint was made to the Norochcholai Police  station that men dressed in uniforms similar to those of Army attire have abducted and beaten up a resident of Norochcholai and left him on the beach side on June 30.

The victim’s wife claimed that four persons dressed in army-like uniform and a civilian came to their home and wanted to take her husband for questioning for sending SMS text to the wife of an army officer.

Her husband, Raja Sri Kanthan, 38 was later found with injuries on the beach in Illanthady and admitted to the hospital.

The spokesman said the police have alerted the army about the incident and the Military Police conducted investigation and handed the four suspects to the police.

The Captain and three soldiers attached to the to an Army camp in Serunuwara would be produced before the Puttalam Magistrate Court, SDIG Rohana said. (DSB)
