The cabinet today approved the proposal submitted by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to donate the salaries of all Cabinet Ministers for the month of August to the Covid-19 fund.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa recently requested the general public to be prepared to make sacrifices if the country is to be placed under a lockdown for a longer period of time in the future.

The Prime Minister has said that all ministers will donate their August salaries to the Covid fund in response to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's request.

Earlier, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MPs had also decided to contribute their one month salary to a special fund that is to be opened by Leader of Opposition Sajith Premadasa.

That's good for a start. You all have made enough money. The donation made can be recouped anyway right? Do not now ask everybody to contribute. It has to be a voluntary exercise,

    DHA Monday, 23 August 2021 06:13 PM

All Parties should forward their looted money it will be enough to overcome any obstacles for the next 10 years.

Reduce the salary of all government departments by 50% to help poorest of poor in the country ..that is only to stop a collective suicide of our Sri Lanka communities . . Create a social welfare system to help poor . Enclosure temples ; churches and mosques to do it as we'll.

Drama!!. If they don’t steal the debt funds of the country,

    Chux Monday, 23 August 2021 06:19 PM

Commendable this same cabinet of ministers, and state ministers etc agreed to PM's proposal to import luxury vehicles for them to work more efficiently. Cover the salary forgone by allowances. Keep up the good deeds.

    69Lakhs Monday, 23 August 2021 06:20 PM

Does he think that all the people of this coutry are idiots. Are they giving up there multiple vehicles, salaies to the family as personal staff, the mutiple allowances and the state paid homes, elecricity bills and water bills.

    Farook Monday, 23 August 2021 06:20 PM

If you include the commissions that the ministers plunder, it will generate a huge fund. Big enough to control Covid I suppose.

Voter Silva Monday, 23 August 2021 06:22 PM

Can he answer the question how he and his family on government salaries have amassed their wealth.

    Disgusted Monday, 23 August 2021 06:24 PM

Will he ask Daisy Achchi to donate the bag of gems.

Priyan Fernando Monday, 23 August 2021 06:28 PM

Cut 50% of the salary of all government servants draw above 50,000/- per month . exclude health staff

    Lion Monday, 23 August 2021 06:41 PM

Out of politics these people have made billions so it won’t take much difference for giving their 1 month salary.

    Sam Monday, 23 August 2021 06:42 PM

It should be all politicians and political appointees. They make big money of the taxpayers money

    Terrence Monday, 23 August 2021 06:42 PM

When you do something good let your right hand not know what your left hand is doing because you have already obtained your reward from human beings

    ravin Monday, 23 August 2021 06:45 PM

Philanthropists had donated more at the beginning of covid-19 in2020 and still no proper account of that fund. Who is going to bite the bullet?

Sam Silva Monday, 23 August 2021 06:45 PM

Hopefully this covid fund will not end up in their own pockets.

    aligotand225thiefs Monday, 23 August 2021 06:56 PM

These fellows who are accused of stealing 25% of the national income must return country's stolen wealth. We don't need such a big cabinet to run a country of 21 million people. Donating a month's salary is a stupid joke.

    Victim Monday, 23 August 2021 06:58 PM

    Return all the bribes.

Sam Silva Monday, 23 August 2021 06:59 PM

From the day these politicians were appointed they have not done much. They should contribute 6 months salary towards the daily wage earners.

    Srilankan Monday, 23 August 2021 07:09 PM

It should not be their salaries but their commissions and bribes. When a foreigner looks at our politicians, it says a lot about our people.

public Silva Monday, 23 August 2021 07:29 PM

We cannot pay any more taxes. Get the money from government servant salary cuts

Dingi Maama Monday, 23 August 2021 07:30 PM

Why not bring in all ill-gotten wealth. No harm, it belongs to people

    maha Monday, 23 August 2021 08:46 PM

Not only salary, robbed public money also should be returned

    Lalith Monday, 23 August 2021 09:20 PM

Let's stop the boru show about cutting governing costs. How about a meaningful initiative to demonstrate genuineness by pruning the cabinet. Here is a challenge. Limit cabinet and all forms of ministers and deputies to just 18 persons, and all appointees to be non-related to the president or the prime minister.

Amaris Silva Tuesday, 24 August 2021 02:59 PM

What is this big noise about donating a month's salary? The Ministers should really forego their salaries as this is only a "side income".
