Attorney General today informed the Supreme Court that Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has commenced an investigation into the Aranthalawa massacre that took place in 1987.
Last year, the Buddhist monk Ven. Andaulpatha Buddhasara Thera who sustained critical injuries following the Aranthalawa Massacre filed a Fundamental Rights petition in the Supreme Court seeking an order to prosecute any living terrorist involved in the massacre.
Accordingly, then Attorney General Dappula De Livera had directed IGP to record a statement from a Buddhist monk and commence criminal investigations over the incident.
Thirty-three Buddhist monks, most of them young novice monks, and four civilians were killed by the LTTE at Aranthalawa in 1987.

All mass killings have to be investigated. This must include the killings of ALL DOCTORS, NURSES, AND PATIENTS at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital by the Indian Army on 21 October 1987.

Too early. We should have wait at least another few decades for this investigation.
