A delegation of the Foreign Employment Bureau and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had left for Oman to investigate incidents related to human trafficking, The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau (SLFEB) said.
The team left on Sunday on the instructions of the Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara to investigate the incidents related to human trafficking in Oman.
The Bureau said that the group includes an additional general manager of the SLFEB, three investigating officers and a police inspector and a female sub-inspector of the CID.
Information with regard to the human trafficking ring came to light after the CID received complaints of Sri Lankan female migrant workers being sent as domestic workers to Oman being sold at auctions to work as escorts. It was then also revealed that Sri Lankan women were being sent to Oman for employment under tourist visas and were being abused.
Earlier, the CID also arrested several suspects in connection to the human trafficking.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

What can the Sri Lankan team including the CID do in Oman ? In all the Arab countries Sri Lankans are considered as a low class humans who does not need any respect . The Arabs think Sri Lanka is a country of prostitutes and labourers. If Tamils were running Sri Lanka no woman would have been allowed to go and do dirty work in foreign countries , Industries would have been created in Sri Lanka for women to work and lead a respectable life.
