The bakery owners have increased the prices of all bakery products except bread by Rs. 5 to Rs. 50 following the recent fuel price increase, All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association (ACBOA) President N.K. Jayawardene said.
According to him, all ingredients used in the production of bakery items have increased sharply by 100%.
As a result and being bakery owners, we are debating whether to close our bakery business or expand our confectionery offerings.
Therefore, the association has decided to increase all bakery items other than bread.
"Snacks, including buns, fish bun, egg bun and jam bun have been increased from Rs.5 to Rs.10 and the price of a kilo of butter cake has been increased by Rs.50," he said.
Furthermore, Jayawardene stated that most bakery owners have raised bakery items from Rs.5 to Rs.50. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
