Chairman NSC Arjuna Ranatunga stressing a point to the media

The National Sports Council (NSC) headed by Chairman Arjuna Ranatunga is set to propose to the Sports Minister to appoint only reputed veteran players in their field as members of the respective National Sports Associations (NSA’s) including cricket.
Ranatunga expressed his dissatisfaction with some of the members of the NSA’s selection committee and urged the authorities to give more priority to some of the former veteran players and to utilise their experience in the respective field. The former Sri Lanka World Cup winning Cricket Captain also recommended that any vacancy in the NSA selection committee should be advertised in the newspapers before making a new appointment. Ranatunga made these observations during a media briefing held in Colombo.
“I am not convinced with the selection committee of Sri Lanka Cricket, and they are yet to name the squad to play against Afghanistan and the Sports Ministry or the NSC is not ready to take up the responsibility,” Ranatunga elaborated.
Ranatunga said that they had requested from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) to submit ten names for the new selection committee but so far, they have not responded.
Ranatunga also reiterated that the NSC cannot anymore tolerate officials of NSA’s going on overseas joyrides and said that this is totally misusing funds allocated for the development of sports in the country.

The biggest change must be done on SLC election process!! Eliminate the election process!! Because of the election system only that totally unwanted and unqualified people became SLC office bearers!! Yeah that's how we'd low class low level people like Bookieeman, Mudalali's sons and Taxi Driver's Son in the hiarachy of SLC which used be prestigious sports governing body!!

The cricket governing body formally known as the board of control for cricket in Sri Lanka had some distinguished gentleman like JR, NM, Robert Senanayake, Make.Gen.BR Hey, TB Werapitiya, Gamini Dissanayake and Tyronne Fernando!! At the helm of the board uncontested and unopposed!!(if am not mistaken)

I Will steadfastly accuse the Bookieeman for the debacle of cricket in Sri Lanka and the rapidly deteriorating standard of cricket, yeah!! (I just witnessed SL losing to Afghans in the ODI with 12 overs remaining!! Huh, I rest my case!!)

Arjuna is correct here. Very poor selection comitee exists for cricket. Current comitee not considering good and reliable players. We won the asia cup mainly due to luck rather than skills. They keep on selecting Gondimal who is an utter failure in white ball cricket since 2010

No unity too much in fighting No team spirit And selection should be on merit what is best for the team it is the difference between Australian cricket or NZ cricket and SL And rules should apply to everyone including bosses don't make exceptions that's where the problem begins Hope you succeed this time

If Aruguna take the responsibility i think he will put proper procedures in place officials Trainers etc. Sri Lankan cricket need diciplin players behavior should not give any kind of leniency since sangakara mahila left the game everything have fallen from officials to players poor disiplin toomany interference influences have ruined the Gentalmans sports...Someone like Aruguna can make a difference with basics getting done..

Chandimal is a classic test player but in the short format he is unable to deliver. Angelo Mathews should have been roped in from the Asia Cup to the World Cup and the Afghan series. Even if SL wins the remaining 2 Afghan ODIs and 3 ODIs in India it's impossible for them to get into the top 8 as the automatic qualification has gone out of the reach with 62 points in 19 matches so far.

Changing just the Selection Committee would not help. The entire Executive Committee MUST be removed and a fresh election must be held under a revised constitution allowing only retired cricketers who have played in international matches would be able to contest.

Ranatunga's theory. Only Ranatunga family can solve issues. In reality non of the family members did pass other than O/L. Just because they played cricket does not mean that they are qualified. No wonder the country is in a mess.

Arjuna: You know very well the Executives of SLC are corrupt and clueless. You are the Chairman/NSC and your leader is the President of Sri Lanka and your brother is a minister. Instead of talking too much, do something: Use your power and dissolve the Executive Committee of SLC, and revise the Consitution so that only former cricketers who have played at the international level can contest to be members of the Executive Committee of SLC. If you cannot do that, just shut your mouth.

Look who's Talking, it was after the 1996 world cup victory, the decline of Our Cricket began. Ranatunga was good on the field,but definitely not off the field.It all started with the bookie man taking over, and with the brothers "Tungas" did the rest,and still have not given up,filling their pockets. Just because you played cricket, doesn't make you any credible, nor the Ranatunga brothers theory , in reality having Played cricket does not qualify enough,being Politicians suit's the brothers company. Sports Ministers ignorence is Obvious, here. Getting mislead by the wrong people, to support his office.
