President Ranil Wickremesinghe emphasized that all political parties should come to a common agreement to provide a solution to the ethnic problem by the upcoming 75th Independence Celebration.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe revealed this while attending the All-Party Conference held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (13) afternoon, Presidential Media Division said.

The President convened this conference with the aim of finding a solution to the ethnic problem through national reconciliation.

“We must all come together to solve the problem in this country. Whether it is called an ethnic problem or something else is not important. We want to provide solutions to these problems.

All the political parties came together to find a solution for this and reach an agreement in the parliament. Today this party leaders’ meeting was called for that purpose. The northern parliamentarians have raised the national issue of the country today. This question can be discussed in two parts.

The first is the process of compensation for the missing and investigations. There are many problems that need to be solved regarding the Prevention of Terrorism Act, as well as land.

The second is the arrangement required to do legal work related to power devolution. In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Justice are jointly implementing a special program.

Accordingly, we hope to provide a report on the missing persons and political prisoners. After that, we can talk about devolution. The report of the committee headed by Supreme Court Justice Nawaz will be printed in a week. The report includes a number of proposals. We are also considering the suggestions of the previous reports,” he said addressing the conference.

We all know we have two languages,religions,culture,ethnicity, traditional living areas from time immemorial. Common sense states two sections in one country for peace. India has 29 in one country, UK has 4 in one country, USA has 51 in one country, similarly France, Germany and many other countries have states/ divisions in one country.

@RD. India has numerous languages some I quote: Hindi, Gurati, Marati, Bengali, Goan, Kannadam, Telungu, Tamil, Malayalam, Punjabi etc hence Hindi is main but this was not accepted in the South. So do not take India as an example and give false impression. Every state has their own language as official.

Politics has dramatically changed in recent time ..Tamils well understood it and still are understanding it...India will never support the idea of any partition in Sri Lanka if they do it Sheikhs wi ask their home land for them in Indian like wise many other groups will do it ..China will never support this idea for its geopolitical interest in the region ...Western countries don't care it ...but we Sri Lankans must be smarter enough to resolve our issue within ourselves...there are many advantages for Tamils to be living among Sinhalese ; firstly 1/3 Tamils live outside north and East...when we take into account upcountry tamils more than half Tamils live outside north east ...will they prefer to live dry zones in the North and East? I don't think so? There are many other issues which indicate that Tamils are better off by living with Sinhalese

To solve the problem do it like India and Canada. All communication in 2 language. One will be the state language and other is English. Even Hidi people get a English letter too. If we reply all the people with English and Sinhalese, or English and Tamil. Let people tell how they want to be communicated. That makes this problem go away.

With the creation of a federal political system there would be a better structural framework for Sri Lanka to overcome the existing problems between Tamils, Muslims and Sinhalese! The ethnic and partly related economic problem areas and injustices would have to be analyzed and documented in mixed (Tamil, Muslim and Sinhalese working groups)! At the same time, the entire education system would have to be examined and named with regard to existing racist, religious, etc. discrimination! On this basis, the various working groups develop and propose pragmatic proposals and solutions !!! The highest political maxim must be: all people living in SL have the same rights and obligations and the same access to all educational institutions, job opportunities and state institutions! The "unity in diversity" is the guarantor for lasting peace and prosperity in Sri Lanka! However, if such a conceptual procedure is to be successful, it needs a different time frame than the one currently being

To reply on comments regards India and why they sing it in minority language and not Hindi, is simple to honor the writer. So usual we Lanka be same, honor the writer by singing it but obviously Tamils don't like that idea. When Tamils can work, buy a home anywhere in the island but Sinhalese are deliberately discriminated against it in North and parts of East. Who's rights are missing. I'm not even getting into the historical side of Tamil been in Lanka but the fact the most of the North was called Waligama. Shall leave it at that lol.
