Asian youth athletic Championship 2023 Bronze Medalist and Upcoming young Sri Lanka athlete Ayomal Akalanka of Ambagamuwa MMV qualified for the 400m Hurdle Boys finals at the 7th Commonwealth Youth Games today.
The Commonwealth Youth Games Athletic Championship is now underway in Trinidad and Tobago and the final of the event is scheduled to be held tomorrow (10) at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
The preliminary round of the respective event was held today, where Ayomal Akalanka, who participated in the first heat, managed to come first place clocking 51.99 seconds.
Akalanka also managed to record the best time in this competition which consists of two preliminary rounds.
Ayomal Akalanka (Srilanka) 51.99sec, Daneil Anthony (Jamaica) 52.83sec, Michael Cheyne (Trinidad and Tobago) 53.05sec, Oliver Parker (England) 53.32sec, Matthew Hunt (Australia) Amos Kipkmoi (Kenya) 54.71sec, Bapi Hansda (India) 54.18sec, Kevioy Nolan (St.Kitts and Nevis) 55.16sec qualified for 400m Hurdle Finals.
Sri Lanka Athletic Secretary Saman Kumara Gunawardena says that Ayomal Akalanka will be among the Gold or Silver medals depending on the performance of those who have qualified for the final of the respective event. (Susil Premalal)
