Royal College retained the Bradby Shield after recording a 27-17 over Trinity College in the second leg of the 77th encounter at Reid Avenue.

With the seven-point victory margin Royal were able to overturn the three-point deficit they had after losing the first leg 13-10 in Kandy two weeks ago, winning 37-30 on aggregate.

Royal ran in five tries, of which one was converted, while Trinity scored two converted tries and a penalty.

It is all economic opportunity. Compared to all important Colombo nothing has been done in Kandy (even a road to replace the road removed in front of Maligawa) in terms of economic development for decades. So splendor of every thing including schools like Trinity has gone down. It is time to influential people like those in Trinity and the business community to agitate for fair distribution of development funds

@sss Why are you complaining under the wrong topic? Take a hoe and shovel and get to work. It’s not what the country or Colombo or Trinity or economic development can do for you but what you can do for Kandy and the country at large.

Well done Royal, never had any doubt boys!

Royal has a 10000 student population and unlimited human /other resources to tap -Hence credit goes to Trinity for playing to the best of their ability and with very limited resources

@nadarajah, First, I suggest you learn to count. The numbers you quote for Royal are not in any of the statistics or the demographics of what percentage can be recruited or will qualify to pay rugby at the age between 14-19 years. If Trinity do not have the numbers and cannot play rugby, then I suggest you focus on playing marbles starting with yours!

Good game off rugby but little errors created by Trinity allowed Royal clinch it, specially one loose pass collected and run over 40-50 meters by Royal substitute which was the turning point, overall teams were evenly matched although Royal pack were awesome. Trinity did play a better three quarter game with great running compared to Royal. well payed both teams and considering Trinity having a team from just under 1000 - 1500 students compared to Royal with over 10000 to elect a team, super effort by the Trinity team indeed.

The Bradby Shield always showcases the best of real sportsmanship. Its not if the Shield is won or lost that matters most but how the game is played. Well done True Gentlemen of Royal and Trinity!

According to some of the readers India and China should have edge over winning world sport tournaments. Come on guys...this game should be played between 15 available players selected from the entire school population. WWitnessed an open rugby after a while. Hats off to RC

@Dravid Bakmeena, what's the relevance in bringing up school population numbers? These two great Rugby institutions have fought out ferociously for over 77 years, maintaining a great tradition. That's all that matters, mate.
