Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa in a letter to SLFP General Secretary Anura PriyadharsanaYapa had assured that despite criticism, insults and sidelining, he would not leave the party or the party supporters in any circumstance.
Informing his inability to attend the SLFP’s Executive Committee meeting at Battaramaulla on Saturday, the former President congratulated the new office bearers of the SLFP.He had said in the letter that he could not attend the meeting due to his other commitments.
Highlighting some of the main events that SLFP had to face during last few decades, Mr. Rajapaksa explained how he fought to protect his party men from several accusations, when the party was in the opposition.
“It is the prime responsibility of the SLFP to protect the other affiliated political parties, which were behind the SLFP all the time,” the letter said adding that “as such the SLFP as a party should always there to protect the party and its members whenever they were under threat.”
“I firmly believed that the newly elected President of the SLFP, MaithripalaSirisena and other office bearers will take the responsibility of protecting the party as well as its members.
I can bear the continuous threat, insults and sidelining me from both inside and outside, as a person, who able to stand against the world’s ruthless terrorists as well as the international conspiracies,” he stated.
Stating that he would do whatever to be done for the party in the future, the former President said, “We should win again. That is for the country and the party. For that purpose, I am ready to do my duty.”
