Video: Wellampitiya OIC and wife nabbed for drug peddling



Wellampitiya Police OIC M. D. Munasinghe and his wife were arrested by police on the night of December 31 for allegedly peddling Heroin.
When the police checked the official quarters of the Wellampitiya OIC they had recovered 26.5 grammes of heroin.

They were arrested by the Police Organised Crime Investigation Division and detained till January 6 with the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) to be questioned over their involvement in drug trafficking, the CCD told Colombo Magistrate today.

The report filed by the CCD before Colombo Additional Magistrate A.M. Shahabdeen stated that the OIC of the Wellampitiya Police was arrested on December 31 around 7.00 pm for the alleged involvement in heroin trafficking, on confessions made by three suspects arrested for possession of heroin.
 The report stated that the suspects had in their possession 25 grammes of heroin worth over Rs. 150,000 in the market, at the time of arrest.

Police said on interrogation the suspects revealed that they had bought the heroin from the wife of Wellampitiya OIC M.D. Munasinghe.

The report further asserted that on checking the quarters of the Wellampitiya OIC police recovered another 26.5 grammes of heroin.

The report stated that the OIC was being detained for 7 days with the CCD to identify how he came to be in possession of the heroin, his involvement in the crime and to identify the other culprits.
