UNP tells govt. to find abducted boy

The main opposition United National Party (UNP) yesterday urged the government to take immediate action to find the four year old boy who had been abducted from Meegalawa.

A statement issued by the party said the government should take concrete steps in order to arrest the disturbing trend of crime.

“The situation had got so bad today it had become unsafe for small child a man or a woman to stay in his or her house safely,” the statement said.
It had been found out that five children were being molested daily in this country and it had been revealed that there was a political connection in most of these incidents, the statement said.

The party said this trend could be arrested if the rulers of this country had a desire to do so.

The UNP also stressed that the police and the judiciary should be allowed to function freely so that effective steps could be taken to stop the increasing crime. (Yohan Perera)

President Mahinda Rajapaksha has proven incapable of understanding that the primary function of a government is to protect the citizens. He seems to think that development, without a basic legal framework for the protection of the people, is the goal. He endlessly talks about development, knowing well that the structure of policing in the country has failed. He is least perturbed by this failure. The building of roads and engagement in similar ventures is propagandized as an indicator of development. The failure of the police to protect the people does not, to him, indicate a failure of development.

How many boys were abducted during the UNP regime? did the police and the judiciary system work freely then? Having said this the boy from Meegalawa must be freed without any delays.

UNP is taking seriously the things which are insignificant for the government and the voters. Voters are as corrupt as the politicians they vote in.
