Two students drown

Two thirteen-year-old students drowned in Vilathalawa Lake this evening while they were in search of flowers for the Teacher’s Day ceremony to be held tomorrow.

The students were from Iddapola Maha Vidyalaya in Maha Oya, Ampara. (Wasantha Chandrapala)

Very sad. We did not have anything as fathers day, mothers day, teachers day etc during our schooling. The respect was simply there and it continues. Who can forget the teachers who moulded us to what we are today. Unnecessary pressure and excitement lead to such tragedy. Good teachers will not expect any gifts form the children.

What a tragedy.

I think it's high time we looked at protecting our young from drowning - sea, lake, river - so many young lives lost each year.

This is what marketing people have created to sell their products by tagging such days.

When we were attending even we did not had child protect bureau or teachers going to police station for punishing children. This what teachers day should be no parent or child accuse teacher and take them to courts.

In government schools Students are slaves for teachers... some Children even have to grow crops and the teachers take them home. its a terrible situation.
