Trinco students’ killing: STF personnel granted bail



The 13 STF personnel who were remanded on charges of having been involved in the January 2006 killing of five students in Trincomalee were granted bail by the Trincomalee High Court Judge R. Amila Ranaraja today.

The suspects were also ordered to mark their presence every Sunday at the Colombo Crime Division and to avoid intimidating any of the witnesses.
Senior counsel S.L. Gunasekara, with attorney Dhanushka Medagedara and Major Ajith Prasanna appeared for the suspects while the complaints were represented by attorney Nalini Kandasamy.

The suspects mentioned in this case are ASP Sarathchandra Perera, IP Rohitha Vijitha Kumara, SI Ananda Bulana Wewa, Sergeants M.G. Jayalath, J.M. Nimal Bandara, PCs A.P. Amal Pradeep, R.K. Ratnayake, H. Chaminda Lolitha, Udaya Mihira Bandara, M.P.H. Sanjeewa, K.K. Tharaka Ruwan Siri, Indika Thushara and police constable driver J.M. Senarath Dissanayake.

The following are the students who were shot dead near the Gandhi statue: T. Sivanandan, M. Radhihar, Y. Hemachandran, S. Rajendran and Y. Roshanith.
