Three persons removed from terrorist list

Three people who were named as Terrorists in a gazette notification have since been removed from the list through an Extraordinary Gazette issued last week.

The Extraordinary Gazette titled ‘Amendment to the list of Designated persons under regulation 4(7) of the United Nations Regulations No.1 of 2012’ has accordingly been amended to remove Karunanithi Thurairathnam, Sutharsan Kailayanathan and Thanushkody Premani, all residents of the Northern Province, from the designated list.

According to the details provided in the Gazette, one is living in France, the other in India while the third is residing in Sri Lanka.

Military Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasuriya said they had provided documents to the Ministry of External Affairs to confirm that they were not terrorists.

Around 32 Indian residents were among the 424 individuals from 15 organisations included in the designated terrorist list.

Sri Lankans have been prohibited from making contact with the designated organisations and individuals as they allegedly supported LTTE's attempt for resurgence.

People from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland, Thailand, UK and Sri Lanka are among those in the designated terrorist list. (Darshana Sanjeewa)
