Director of the Medical Research Institute Dr. Anil Samaranayake, commenting on the red rains which have been reporting from different parts of the country, said tests carried out on red rain samples by the Cardiff University in England have detected the presence of some living organisms and that they were multiplying.
“MRI tested the red rain samples collected during mid November and found some microorganisms and we sent some samples to England for further investigations. Professor Chandra Wickramasinghe confirmed that these organisms are still living and they are multiplying which is very important in case of further tests. We can look into their DNA and RNA because these organisms can survive in extreme conditions.”
He said in the case of the Kerala red rain, samples were sent to Professor Chandra Wickramasinghe at Cardiff University after three years and found that the organisms were not living.
“In this case we got fresh samples and processed them at MRI and it is very easy to carry out the tests when compared to the Kerala incident.”
The Director said the investigations were continuing.
There has been a huge interest in the country after several incidents of red rain were reported from different parts of the country in the recent past. (Ajith Siriwardana)

To test unknown things UK may be better. But one must admit that our doctors in SL are clever and have wider clinical experience in having to treat large numbers. Western doctors will dare not treat or operate unless they are absolutely confident., due to fear of being sued. But what a patient wants to is for the doctor to treat him/her if there is some chance of cure, rather that shy away due to fear of getting sued.

Also we are good at making up stories, which the uneducated masses start believing and taking it very seriously. Hope this will not become a story like the "world is going to end on 21/12 and there will be a black out for 3 days".

We Sri Lankan's are really good in appointing ourselves as experts in things that we know nothing about. A physician went on TV some years ago talking about hydro power who proved himself an utter idiot, and remains laughing stock to the date among engineers. And then, a physician went on to talk about nuclear science and energy on SLBC who didnt know what the hell he was talking about. A lawyer went on to "improve" a cantilevered bridge by propping it at the end, because he feared the deflecting concrete under loads, which came down in spectacular fashion. Where are the biologists and virologists? What do physicians have to do with this??

To test these samples we have to send them to UK. Then some leading fart states that Chavez can get the best treatment for his cancer from doctors in Sri Lanka. Clearly a country of fools.
