A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of murder over the death of a shop assistant on Merseyside.

Mahesh Wickramasingha, 30, died after being stabbed in the neck while working at Stanley News in Kingsway, Huyton on November 29.

A police spokesman said a 19-year-old man had been arrested on Wednesday night. He was taken to a police station in Liverpool for questioning.

Mr. Wickramasingha has been described as "friendly" and "very hardworking".

The owner of the shop, Dr. Gunapala Welhengama, said the father-of-two had come to the UK to support his family back in Sri Lanka. (Source: BBC)

I feel so sorry for the young man. My heart goes out his kiths & kins back home. My deepest sympathies. Let the authorities bring the perpetrators to justice soon.
