Take a definite stand on LLRC-UNP
The main opposition UNP today said that the government must take a definite stand on the resolution and on the recommendations of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC).
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a news conference that Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva who is also the Leader of the House gave an assurance to Parliament that the LLRC recommendations would be implemented but has now recanted what he said then by saying the government will only implement the recommendations which it could agree to.
He said some other ministers are taking a tough stand on this matter and had even suggested that the government should close down the diplomatic missions in countries which voted for the resolution.
Mr. Attanayake took the opportunity to praise SLFP General Secretary and Minister Maithirpala Sirisena who had suggested a diplomatic approach in rebuilding relations with nations that were hostile to Sri Lanka.
He accused the government of turning a deaf ear to the request made by the UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe for a bipartisan approach between the government and the opposition in dealing with the situation.
Mr. Attanayake also asked the government to address the other vital issues faced by Sri Lankans instead of diverting attention by hiding behind the Geneva resolution. (Yohan Perera)
