Sumathipala says ‘not informed of rejection yet’

MP Thilanga Supmathipala whose candidature for the post of President of Sri Lanka Cricket was rejected said that he was not aware of the rejection of his nomination and therefore he was in no position to comment.“I have not been informed about anything officially yet and all I have seen is through the media. Therefore I don’t think it is right for me to comment on it until I have been officially informed,” he said.
Earlier the Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage said he had rejected Thilanga Sumathipala’s nomination for the presidency of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) as it violated the Sports Law.
The Minister further said that SLC had received three complaints of violations against Sumathipala. According to that the committee headed by the Secretary of the Sports Ministry stated that Sumathipala had violated the Sports Law under Regulation 15. (1).
The committee also pointed out that Sumathipala and his wife were shareholders and directors of companies which imported sports equipment at the time of nomination.( Hafeel Farisz)
