A group of fishermen from Sri Lanka and India clashed in Sri Lankan waters off Kalpitiya in the early hours today, sources said.
According to Kalpitiya Fishing Trawlers Association Chairman Anton Rex, fishermen who sailed from Kalpitiya had radioed back that they had come under attack allegedly from a group of Indian fishermen within Sri Lankan waters in the early hours today.
“They told me they were attacked with sharp weapons by the Indian fishermen causing heavy damages to one of their trawlers,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Navy spokesman Kosala Warnakulasuriya told Daily Mirror that they were alerted of such an attack in Sri Lankan waters, but at the time naval craft sailed to the scene, the matter had been defused amicably.

What next? Waiting for them to come ashore and assault our fishermen? Its time we drew the line with India and re-claim our waters for our fishermen.
