Video: SF may contest at presidential election

The Leader of Democratic Party (DP) Sarath Fonseka today said he would consider contesting at the Presidential Election, but would weigh all available options.

He also said UNP National Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe had requested him to support the UNP in future elections.

“If President Mahinda Rajapaksa decided to contest at the Presidential Election again, we may not contest as he has no legal right or moral right to contest for a third term. It will be an illegal election. However, we will consider backing a common candidate. But if we do so, it will sure to affect our party. So we need to study the possible methodology to develop the party before backing a common candidate,” he said. (YP and SD)

All opposition parties should form an alliance (like BJP in India) similar to the UPFA and go to the people with a mandate to scrap or amend powers of the executive presidency. You are guaranteed of 65% of votes of the whole country.
