In a show of displeasure against the execution of Rizana Nafeek, Sri Lanka today recalled its Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Ahamed Javad, with immediate effect, External Affairs Ministry Secretary Karunarathne Amunugama saidJungle boy Friday, 11 January 2013 08:23 AM
we lost our dignity when we sent our women to middleeast to work like slaves. We are true LIONS. We send our lioness for hunting!!!

Yes, it is a billion dollar move, execution of Rizana was a highly baberic act and no civilized world endorsed that. but except the maid other professionals working in Saudi remit billions dollars, much needed foreign exchange, to the country, currently Saudi Arabia has reduced issuing work permits to Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. Since we have many unemployment is high and low foreign we should have negotiated for higher percentage of employment and stop sending the maids to the Middlle east not only for Saudi.

Saudi Arabia is one of the most pathetic and hypocritical countries in the world. Most Arab Muslims I know say that the Saudis are the worst examples of Islam. In the Arab country I live in, there are huge networks of brothels to serve the Saudi visitors when they come here. Their religion is a sham, as is their whole system of morality.

You are absolutely right. The why the heck isnt SL isolated for genocide even with the issue tabled in the UN?

Why reject such a kind gesture? Maybe he feel bad for the actions of those in power in his country. If outsiders judge all Sri Lankans from the way our politic ions behave it won't be very fair will it?

Then how the heck did we issue her a passport showing her as an adult and also certifying her as an experienced baby sitter?

Another blunder, Initially in the trial SL Embassy did not provide proper assistance for the victim. Now recalling the ambassador will create more issues for Sri Lankans in KSA . They need an Ambassador for representation.

Well done President! Sri Lankans are really tough people with self-respect .In the name of religion, they have behaved the innocent teenage girl by citing the Religious rules , they Behaved like Dracula..Shame on you Saudi Arabia- a country with out humanity and passions.I do not believe that their so called fundamentalist law equalizes every one.No Never.Their law interpret the concepts on thyme for various people in different ways.A true human will always respects the religious significance thoroughly on the basis of humanity not certainly on fanatic idiocies.
Sri Lanka should bring tough laws against child labor exporters. In term of economics, Sri Lanka may be not strong as the first world. But it is far ahead in rest of the fields as compare to Middle East.

@Mike- the root cause is an impoverished nation in which daughters, mothers, sisters are sold for slavery willingly without thinking twice. its not the Saudis we have to blame but ourselves for bringing the country to this point. if we have economic opportunities for all Sri Lankans, (Note the words 'all Sri Lankans') we wont have to hear any of this. (and BTW have you ever heard of house maids from Netherlands working in saudi?)

It's time to invade Saudi. I think our navy is capable of.

Totally agree with Dan's comments. The government and the president had time since 2005 to sort out this matter and it's a foolish move now to call back our Mission head from SA,Are we to believe this move will have an impact on the issue in hand ? This is what happen when you send fools to parliament to represent the public via DM iPad app

Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) wishes to categorically state, that the singular responsibility for this innocent young Sri Lankan woman’s death is upon the President of Sri Lanka, Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksha. His office and the government led by him shamelessly neglected the life of this innocent Sri Lankan woman, who remained incarcerated aboard since May 2005.

Good move. We should stop all dealings with this barbaric country. Govt should also take necessary steps to stop sending our women to middle east as house maids. They can earn money, but ruin their family life. And most of them getting ill treatments and getting torched. All Govts after 1977 should responsible for this pathetic situation.

I don't support the barbarity of be-headings, and I don't know if Rizana was criminally negligent in the death of the child; but this all started when her family forged papers and was abetted by an unscrupulous foreign employment agency. In other words, the real blame for this tragedy started at home.

Simple bullshitting to the masses.

Stupid move. WE have to keep in mind that NOT only women work in the middle east. IF they repatriate all SL's we have a case in hand that we will take decades to solve.. Can we provide with jobs to all those who are overseas? NO .. Am not a supporter of What happened but we got to be practical.. and learn to be Romans when in Rome...
There was NO chance of a reversal of the verdict but our govt and relevent "People of wisdom" were simply hoodwinking the masses to show that they tried every possible avenue. All a farce....We do NOT have what it takes to stand up to the Saudi govt... accept the fact and move on....

the girl has already been punished by keeping her in the prison for such a long time and keeping her away from her relatives...Saudis are not ruled by the Holy Quran but by the jewish traditional laws such as stoning to death and beheading. In the
Holy Quran there is no mention of beheading. Further in exercising the law, human factors should be taken to consideration and they could have easily given enough time for the girl to be pardoned by the parents. ..., and also the Muslim clergy and the Saudi clery who have demonstrated that they do not hold water and are a spent force. May God Almighty send his curse on the people concerned for this cruel murder of the innocent girl

We quite agree with what the Muslim Council of Sri Lanka has stated (See Below)
The Holy Quran furthermore, urges in Verse 15:85 to overlook (any human faults) with gracious forgiveness. Thus we see the implementation of the death penalty as going against the spirit and the letter of Islamic law, the Muslim Council of Sri Lanka said.

Rizana Nafeek came to KSA as a Housemaid and NOT as a baby sitter.
-A baby sitter by all norms and established practices is a professional vocation.
-A Baby sitter is a qualified and trained person similar to a Nurse.
-Rizana Nafeek , perhaps like all other housemaids would have come to KSA for a meagre salary of SR 450.00!!!
-A Baby Sitter would cost the Otaibi family SR 3000.00 or more!!!!
-Is'nt is punishable offence to leave an infant child in the care of an untrained maid who had just arrived in KSA and started work for the Otaibi family.
WAS THE HONORABLE BENCH OF JUDGES AVAILED/INFORMED OF ALL THESE FACTS!!!
